It's been a while again, but this time at least I have a better excuse (at least for the last month). I was in North Carolina for Marine Combat Training from July 31st through August 22nd. Here's some updates on life:
Contractors *still* aren't done. It's past ridiculous now. The kitchen will be done today thankfully. Our electrician showed up bright and early this morning to hook up the electricity for the disposal and dishwasher, install the range hood, move the ceiling fan (one of the cabinet doors bumps into the blades), and install the under-cabinet lighting. The cabinets were delivered right before I left for MCT and installed while I was gone, the counters were installed the day after I got back, and the plumber came the day after the counters to hook up the plumbing for the sink, disposal, dishwasher, and fridge. I'm actually looking forward to going home and doing the dishes tonight, since it'll mean that we have a fully functional kitchen!
My grandmother on my mom's side passed away before I left for MCT. She was an incredibly special woman, and she will be greatly missed in our family. The last few years, she had been fighting with Alzheimer's disease and she had a few strokes, so it wasn't a huge shock when she died, but everyone was saddened. Her memorial service was last weekend. My family scheduled around my training so I could be there, which meant a lot to me.
Work is...work. I had a month off, today is my first day back, and I feel like I never really left. Took a while to sort through all the e-mail, but other than that it's the same ol' thing.
MCT had its fun moments, but the main thing I'll remember about it for years to come is how HOT it was in North Carolina in August. There were at least 5 days that I sweat so much, my boots were drenched from the inside. That's just gross. On the fun side, we got to shoot machine guns, throw grenades, and shoot the M16 at night with night vision goggles and invisible lasers. On the not-so-fun side, it was HOT! :)
I'll try to write more later this week.
